I have a 2006 Toy Matrix, should I wax this car and if so do I use the old paste wax?

Follow Joe’s link. In my opinion in the end it is a matter of what you feel like. wax or polish of whatever band you might like.
You can wax it if you choose to. Just about any brand of car wax you find in the auto parts store will do. The cheap stuff works just as well as the expensive stuff.
My wife has a 2006 Sienna, I’m not impressed with the quality of the paint job. At a minimum, I wax it at least 3 times a year. I’ve been using Meguiars cleaner wax for years with no problem.

What do you mean, “the old paste wax”? Don’t use some old can you dug up in the garage, go buy a new one. And liquids work well, too.
Yes, you should wax it. If it is black or red, you should wax it more often than you would otherwise.
Generally, paste waxes last a little longer, but they are harder to put on than many liquid waxes. The type of wax (paste or liquid) is largely a matter of preference.
