" … all of the high end luxury cars, my 2019 Lincoln MKC included, have a provision for them to electronically govern the speed for any driver. …"
EDIT: I missed the drivers age being 16, I agree, mommy should be held accountable… The minor IS HER responsibility…
The passenger was 18… the driver was 16 and exceeded 100 mph on a QUARTER of his drives! Why didn’t mommy take the keys away?
Oops, missed that somehow, thanks for clearing it up for me…
OK, I thought the driver was also 18, yeah, mommy should have to account for her actions, or there lack of, if it was her minor driving the vehicle…
+1 to Mustangman’s comment.
And, although I can’t seem to find the exact details of this situation, one of the TV news reports stated that Mommie Dearest was getting those notices of his excessive speeding for several months, and the only action that she took was to give Sonny Boy a faster car.
Presumably, the faster car was the X3, but I don’t know what he was driving before the X3.
Yes, newer Fords can do this. The only brand I’ve found that does.
There are aftermarket “tuners” that can limit speed and acceleration much the same way they change calibrations to make cars faster.
It was “her minor”, and she gifted him with a faster car a few months after the first reports of his speeding–according to one of the TV news reports that I saw.
These days even pretty dull cars can exceed 100 mph!
Sure, but are they as fast and as “sporty” as a K-car?
Shockingly enough, a 96 hp 2.2 liter Plymouth reliant K-car could theoretically top 100 mph… top speed 104! Might take a week to get there…
Yes, but the driver was 16, legally a “child”, and the parents had reason to know how their “child” was using their vehicle.
At the same time the passenger was 18, legally an “adult” and responsible for their own decisions but I have to wonder why an 18 year old hadn’t been taught that riding with someone driving like that is dangerous and wonder why an 18 year old is still “hanging around” with a 16 year old ?
But in the end it’s a tragic situation and even all the Attorneys and Courts in the can’t turn the clock backwards.
Previously the teen was hitting 100mph+ in the family’s Audi coupe. No mention of model.
