Starting this morning, my 2007 VW GTI stopped beeping when I lock the doors, though they do lock remotely. The panel display in front of the steering wheel also went to just a car outline; before it had shown the approximate number of miles left on that tank of gas.
I went to Pep Boys and they installed a new battery, but the above two problems remain. I can reset the panel display easily enough, but once I shut the car off, come back and restart it, it’s back to just the car outline. No warning lights display.
Should I be concerned? Can it wait 6 weeks until summer vacation? Can the mechanic who changes the oil diagnose the problem? The car is out of warranty and I’d just hate to have to deal with the dealership.
