Using heat on front end parts

I recently had an alignment done, and I noticed that they used a torch on the lock nut/inner tie rod connection to loosen and adjust the toe.I remember reading that heat should not be used on front end parts.Should I be concerned of a possible safety issue?

The heat was used because of the rust build-up. Heating the parts helps break the bond between the corrosion. Heat at this location is not likely to damage much. Heat directly on the ball joint can cause the teflon-plastic liner to melt.
