In my area of Florida, EVs are cheaper than ICE or hybrid cars. I can buy a 2023 Tesla Model 3 for $25K to $32K. A ‘23 Model Y is $34K. A 2022 Audi E-Tron lists for $29.5K. A ‘23 Mach E lists for $29.5.
For less than $30K I can buy a ‘22 Volvo XC60, a ‘21 BMW X3 plug-in hybrid, a ‘23 Subaru Outback.
For that $33K, it buys me one to 2 year newer models or a step up in luxury to an ICE Lexus, Audi A5 or A6, Mercedes E class and a number of nice mid-size SUVs.
My local Tesla dealer has a lot of cars on the used car lot. $35K will get me a 2018 or 2019 Long Range Plus Model S or newer Model 3 or Y.
Customer demand is as low for used EVs as it has become for new EVs and the used market reflects that. A friend in Chicago was helping is daughter shop for cars and was told the dealers there would not take an EV in trade because they could not sell them.
If it meets your travel needs, a EV could be a good choice in a warm state. But park it outside because flooding can come with little warning!
