Turn signals and automatic door locks

I ran some errands the other day. When I came out, I hit the unlock on the key fob twice to unlock all doors. Only the drivers door unlocked. I then drove to my next stop and noticed my turn signals were blinking rapidly. We checked all of the lights and all were working. When I came out, I tried unlocking all of the doors. None of the doors would unlock. I went home (turn signals still blinking rapidly) and tried the other key fob. It would not work either. After the car sat for about an hour, all worked fine again. Both key fobs would lock & unlock the doors. The turn signals were back to normal. What is common between these two functions that would cause both to not work correctly at the same time.

battery terminal posts and lugs are common to all the electrical systems.
