Trunk won't shut

On July 4 I noticed that the trunk door on my mother’s car did not shut properly. Basically every time I tried to close it it would refuse to click shut. The front part of the trunk seemed a bit more inflated than usual or maybe I did not look at it that much in the past. I managed to close it a few times by myself by moving part of the interior that seemed to stick out and slamming it shut. Since then I can’t close it again. My mother somehow got it closed herself and is now afraid to use it. Nothing is blocking the trunk door from closing. What could it be?

Sounds like someone sprung a hinge by trying to force the lid closed with something in the way.

It’ll probably require a hinge adjustment or replacement.
