I have a 1998 Ford Explorer 2WD 5.0L V8. My check engine light went on. and the code i got is p1309. I have 210,000 miles on it. What could that mean?
That code means that you have an electronic problem that is preventing the vehicle’s OBD system from detecting a misfire condition–if it should occur.
Since misfiring will damage the very expensive catalytic converter and possibly other components, you want the OBD system to be able to detect misfiring. While this is probably not an emergent situation, I would suggest you have it repaired as soon as it is convenient, just so that you can avoid more expensive problems as a result of this problem.
More than likely, there is a chip that needs to be replaced, but the problem could also be related to wiring problems or a bad sensor.
