Started my car in the garage and tried to put it in reverse. Soon found out it is stuck in Park. I tried the shift interlock button, but nothing happened. Have never had a problem before. I am totally perplexed. Do not know the next step.

Does the transmission shift when the car is off? Try rocking the car back and forth…perhaps the pawl is stuck.
do not know what a pawl is. may have to tow it to a local garage
Try turning the steering wheel back and forth when trying to put it into gear. Good Luck
