My car won’t go into 1st and 2nd gear but it will go into 3rd and up. It just happened all of a sudden. What is wrong??
First: check your fluid. Is it low or dirty? How old’s the car and what’s the mileage? Need more specifics.
We don’t know what kind of car you drive. Year, make, model, mileage, engine and transmission type, etc, are useful and necessary information.
How are we to know wether your car has a manual or an automatic transmission if you don’t tell us?
I’m guessing it’s a manual, but unless you specify I’m not saying any more.
Linkage fell off.
Sorry-I am new to the car world! The car is a manual, 2003 VW GTI 1.8T. It has app. 105,000 miles. Thanks for the help!
My bet is a linkage problem. Most any mechanic should be able to handle it. Since you are not under warranty, I would recommend an independent mechanic. Don’t go to a chain and don’t even drive through the lot of a fast oil change place.
