Transmission Problem or Electrical (Computer)

My husband drives a 1991 Honda Accord. It’s been a great car until we moved from SC to PA.

In the past year a cellanoid (spelling) had to be replaced and the othe cleaned because my husband noticed the sport light blinking on the dash and then the car would not shift into gear … or if he was driving in 3 or 4th gear it would get out of gear. The only remedy he had was to pull over, turn off the car, and restart it. This fixed it most of the time until lately. He thinks it’s the computer. The mechanic who looked at it said it’s the transmission. Who’s right?

It’s spelled “solenoid.” It’s almost never the computer. It is far more likely to be a mechanical issue with the transmission. The solenoid valves would be a good place to start looking.
