Transmission fluid change

A proper flush/fluid exchange does no harm. On the other hand, a pan drop or drain and fill with a filter change works well also. Last time I had a flush on one of my cars, the cost was about $160-$175. This included a pan drop, filter change and the fluid exchange. Depending on where you are, your price can be higher or lower. It is important to get the filter changed, so for me, the pan drop is essential. The full flush/fluid exchange less so.

asemaster seems to be very familiar with this transmission so based on his posts, I would say that a properly done flush will not hurt anything but your wallet. I think that it will just be a waste of money. Drain, replace the filter, clean the plug if it has the magnetic end and then refill. Repeat about every 30k miles.

thnaks again guys

if its just a drain and fill and filter replacement is getting it done at an il change place ok?

I recommend use a reputable independent mechanic or transmission specialist for this mechanic. Quick lubes and franchise places might do a good job, but they are dependent on the actual owner or manager’s expertise and customer focus. Many quick lubes will only do flushes and no filter changes due to the extra time involved.

You can use mechanics files on the Car Talk home page to find mechanic recommendations if you need to.

thanks; just figured since it has an external filter?

Less likelihood of a screw up, but they may have to special order to filter. Very unlikely they will have it in stock. I have an abiding distrust of the quick lubes, though.

yes me too! thanks for the advice
