I know, beating a dead horse. Ford 10R80 transmission. Went to an independent shop to check fluid exchange price vs dealership. The guy there said don’t bother, it won’t help. Just drive it until it fails then replace it!
I am still of the opinion I should have it done at 30,000 mile intervals. Dealership price is around $425. But back to flush vs pan drop. I think there are positions supporting both options.
My Mustang service manual has procedures for both at the fluid exchange and the pan-drop. Given 30K on the trans, I’d suggest a fluid exchange as there is likely little to nothing in the filter. Ford states you can re-use the filter if there is very little debris in the pan.
I think my manual shows a fluid change requirement at 125K miles. I have 47K on it now and I am considering a change at 50K or 62K, not sure yet.
The normal operating temp is 206F to 215F to check fluid levels. Even after a hard track session the temp shows about 215-220F so it clearly is not overheating.
Given the PIA it is to drain and refill as well as check the fluid level afterwards, $425 does not seem so bad.
