Transfer case noise? But not from chain

Chasing clunk sound on my 08 equinox AWD. I removed driveshaft and wiggled output flange and I get this sound. Is noise from backlash normal or excessive? I can load audio files and pics but not video.

The Equinox is known for transfer case problems

Common problems with the transfer case in a Chevy Equinox include unusual noises, failure to engage four-wheel drive, complete breakdowns, and the transfer case cracking, often requiring costly repairs or replacements.

The car is cursed. I drove it at 20k and I didn’t care for it.
I got a free t-case. Funny what folks give away

Excessive backlash, probably from bearing failure.. imo

Drain the fluid and see what chunks come out of it..

The trans does have a differential. The diff is inline with left/right axles. In a fwd setup? Mine is awd so it has a transfer case with a ring/pinion next to trans case in a separate case and not a chain/sprocket setup like a truck.
I guess only way to see if different t-case is quieter is to swap it in. To get rid of my noise. The noise I mention is from going over road bumps and is not a constant “grinding/whine” noise
I took my new tcase apart and gears look fine.

@Cavell

Now that you’ve torn it down, I’ll only offer $25

Pic of bad diff is not my car. I probably will change mine since I have the part.
So, the rear diff has elec applied clutch pack. I think it calls out versatrak fluid. The front t-case is 100% mechanical. Just a ring and pinion. it is always engaged. So the driveshaft is always spinning but not applied in rear. Unless computer says so.

That’s not a diff. It’s a transfer case out an Equinox. Like the title of your post asks.

My t-case does not have chain.

Because the Equinox T-case has a chain.
