I recently took my 2004 Chevy Cavalier in for an oil change and they told me that I needed to replace my transaxle oil pan gasket. What is that? How do I know if it really needs to be replaced? Any thoughts on a reasonable price for this work?
The oil pan on the bottom of the transmission has a gasket between it and the transmission case. Apparently the transmission is leaking ATF right here. If it is leaking, it needs to be replaced. The transmission can be severely damaged if it gets low on fluid.

If “they” is a quick-lube place, get a second opinion from a real mechanic.
