To heat or not to heat the car seat?

Are you guys kidding, the three greatest inventions ever are in this order

  1. WD40
  2. Preparation-X
  3. Heated Leather Car Seats

You guys must have cans of steel to not like these things!

2006 Subaru has heated cloth seats!!! I am sure that means there are other years that have heated seats.
I just bought a used 2008 Outback wagon Limited edition. WOW. Never thought I would like heated seats. It sure is a luxury though. If I start the car 5 minutes before I leave so the windows de-ice and turn on the heated seats it is so lovely to start my drive comfortably. Gone are the days of my 69 VW bus dressed for 20 below and peering out a tiny patch of windshield…I love heated seats and side view mirror defrosters.

I’m one of the few women who hates heated car seats. There’s no delicate way to put this, but a heated car seat makes my bum sweat!

I am a guy, and I like the Heated Seats . . . well at least until I get my gloves warm by sitting on them. Then I turn the darn thing OFF! It’s too stinkin’ Hot !

Also, I’m thinkin’ this whole thing just points out that guys have Hotter Butts than the gals do! LOL !

The only time I was very thankful for seat warmers is when the thermostat in the company car wasn’t working, so in turn no heat in the car and it was -40 outside. But other then that i haven’t the need for heated seats. Oh yes Im a Guy

Heated seats are like electric pads. They can help to sooth aching backs. Try blasting the A/C on a hot summer day and turning on your seat heater. Works wonders for old sports injuries.

My wife and I recently bought a new car and she asked the sales man 3 questions about every car. Does the car have heated seats, does the car have four doors, and does the car have an automatic transmission? If any of these 3 questions come back with an answer of NO, we moved on to the next car. In fact, she was willing to bend on the number of doors, and the transmission, but not the heated seats. I personally could care less, but her only definition if a car is a good car or not, is whether it has heated seats or not. Not heated seats, the car is crap. Heated seats, well keep it forever and I love it!

Have never had one but would love to! Instant heat to take the chill off til your car warms up.

While I’m not terribly fond of roasting my buns and would like to turn the seat down a bit, the two herniated discs in my back love the fact that my wife’s car has heated seats keeping them all warm and happy on an otherwise cold drive.

Personally, I think that the male/female difference comes from the difference in ambient temperature perception between the sexes. I once read that women on average perceive the temperature as five degrees colder than men. I can confirm this based on many years of thermostat battles with my father when I lived at home. It continues to this day between him and my mother.

My boyfriend and I just bought a 2011 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. The trim level comes with the “all weather package” which basically is heated mirrors, windshield (where the wipers rest) and seats (cloth by the way). I was excited about heated seats and he said he didn’t really like them but didn’t care much either way. Well, once the temperatures started dipping down into the twenties and teens here in VT and MA, he unabashedly admitted that heated seats are wonderful. It probably helps that the low setting is low enough that you can have it on for hours and the high setting heats up much quicker than the car does!

Oh, and to the caller with the daughter who wants to learn how to drive stick- go for it. Nobody borrowed my car when I was in college because they couldn’t drive it, and meanwhile someone who borrowed my roommate’s car put a big dent in it and never owned up to it. I love driving manual and will do my absolute best to never buy an automatic.

I got stuck driving a rental car a week ago & hated it. The heated seat came on when I was trying to make a different temperature adjustment. I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off & even the lowest setting was uncomfortable. I’m very heat sensitive & was MISERABLE. I would not buy a car with heated seats.

I’m from Florida so you would think a seat heater would be redundant. But I had a to pick when buying the car heated seat, or moon roof. My back hurt that day, so I tried the seat heater. OOOW, Sold. I have used the heater for the cold twice in two years, but many time when my back hurts. Now if I could get it to vibrate.

Just something else to fix .

I probably won’t ever buy another NEW car because my eyes are getting bad, but if I do, it will have heated seats and heated steering wheel. My fingers get cold easily.
I agree with the wonam in the 8th post above. Four doors, automatic and heated seats.

I have never had heated car seats so I cannot give an opinion on seats. Previous things I thought I had no need for but now enjoy are, a remote control for the tv, a remote control for the garage door, air conditioning in a car, a cell phone, the internet.

I never thought I’d be a fan of heated seats, but after my minimalist car died (crank windows, manual transmission, and only the driver lock operated by the fob) we got a new-to-us car with all kinds of finer things. The dodgy back-up assist doesn’t help in our crowded neighborhood and often “fails” anyway, the XM radio usually gets passed over for our own collection stored in our phones, and the 3 programmable buttons for our garage doors we don’t have are all less-than-helpful. The seat-heater however, has been an absolute win!

As a woman who runs on the chilly side I love getting up to temperature before reaching my destination, and it’s an absolute joy for snow trips, especially when sitting in a car with the doors open to change wet/snowy pants and boots into their dry counterparts.

As for the interior vs. exterior sets of giblets, my male better-half enjoys them as well, but turns them off much sooner as he tends to run warm and reaches temperature much sooner than I do. It’s no deal-breaker, but it’s sure appreciated while we’ve got it!

I hate to say that people are wrong or right on this obvious issue of opinion… but you’re all wrong.

Cramps.

Its all about the cramps. I bet if you added an age to the poll you would find that the older the woman, the less likely they are to care how warm/cold their car seat is. As for me, I don’t own heated seats, my mother, however, will not buy a car without them, and when ever I visit her and its right about that time… nothing is better than a nice long drive in her Charger.

There is no way a man could understand, but let me tell you, that warmer is worth every penny!

(also, I have to imagine that, as women, we don’t get as uncomfortably sweaty or have certain anatomy stuck to our legs due to the heat.)

I just read on Dr. Mercola’s website that: “Heated car seats and heating pads increase testicular temperatures enough to decrease sperm production.” So… maybe men intuitively get this and avoid heated seats?

My Civic has fabric seats. Don’t need heat. My partner’s Accord has leather seats.
She needs heat. When she drives me in her car on a cold day, I enjoy a warm but ride.

I would add duct tape; if you don’t want it to move, use duct tape; if you do, use WD40.
