You can still get glasspack mufflers
 stainless steel ones or carbon steel ones
 just like the oval style. You don’t want them to rust out? Just buy good quality stainless steel mufflers and pipes.

Glass packs? I worked at a Midas shop in the late '80’s, we had straight through mufflers but I don’t believe they had fiberglass packing. My father told me that he had genuine glass packs on his Pontiac.
