That is undoubtedly true, but I can report that Costco’s tire center had no problem properly programming my new TPMS sensors, and they handily beat everyone else’s price when I last had this done ~5 years ago.
The Costco near my place was NOT able to program TPMS sensors . . . but they always try to upsell them
Seems pretty ridiculous, imo
Imagine if your old TPMS sensors are still working and you have Costco install new tires and sensors
But they return the car with the TPMS light illuminated, because they can’t program the new sensors
That will result in an unhappy customer
I have found no difference at Walmart in Campbell soup, Land ‘O Lakes Butter, Pillsbury Flour, Krylon paint or any number of hundreds of items compared to higher price stores. Even their Everstart batteries have worked well. Tires, now that is a horse of a different color.
All this is moot, it seems the OP is going to go to Discount Tires.
The observation about programming TPMS sound be asked at Discount Tires. I would not be happy to pays for the sensors, then pay some other shop to program them.
Yes, that would definitely make for an unhappy customer.
But, by contrast, TPMS sensors were never mentioned by the counter guy at my Costco tire center. When I requested that they install new ones, the guy said, “Good idea! I stopped suggesting new sensors after so many customers told me that I was trying to rob them.”
I’m a fan of Tire Rack for advice, selection and price. As for TPMS sensors the batteries on those can be remotely tested with a coding tool. My sensors routinely have lasted at least 10 years and more.
I got a new tire this morning from Discount Tires.
They gave me $120 credit for my old tire.
Even though I never bought the tire warranty.
I did buy it on my new tire.
They sprayed some soap solution on the new tire.
It was bubbling when I looked at it.
They looked at it and found some dirt on the rim where the tire mounts.
They buffed it out, and submerged the tire in water to make sure there were no leaks.
That is great customer service.
