I know not everyone here agrees, but I always get an alignment with new tires. I don’t want to gamble on having them wear unevenly.
I have a set I need to replace right now, but my tire place doesn’t do alignments and my alignment shop is all backed up with appointments. So…I wait.
Friend has 2020 suv w/20” tires and he got $1100 Michelins last year. And is trading it in for a new Mercedes suv. They don’t have money issues. I told him I didn’t care for his old suv and he finally agreed.
This is why I go there. Had the car in for a timing belt change. Asked if they could do alignment when I got there. No problem. Took about an extra hour and I got a $50 off coupon applied at the same time.
Worse case, it’s possible for an intrepid diy’er to get pretty close just using strings & levels as long as you have a level, flat parking place. utube probably has several how to vdos. Should help avoid serious tire wear while waiting for a pro-alignment.

- I’m still a mess with this editor *
I’ve played with that only once - when I replaced a steering rack and didn’t want to wreck my tires on the way to the alignment shop! Or have the car trying to run me out of my lane - tho’ we’d obviously always err on the side of the ditch rather than oncoming traffic All I was doing was the toe in any case. And in the end, it didn’t need all that much adjustment on the alignment rack.
I do not type up my responses in the editor, I use MicroSoft Word to type up my responses, it’s easier to use, and the spellcheck and grammar check help me avoid "studip mestaks and other misstipings…).
After I’ve had a chance to review my writing, I copy (CTRL A to highlight the text, CTRL C to copy all the highlighted text) all the text and then I click the reply button and paste (CTRL V to paste the text into the editor…) the text…
To do this you must have your browser open to the CarTalk web page and then open Word, both applications are open and you just switch between the two…
If you are replying to a previously written response, highlight the text that you are referencing and click “Quote” and then paste you text in afterwards…
I hope this helps… I’ve tried to make it as clear as possible…
Way too complicated. I have no problem in the reply field, If I see something I want to post can copy and paste no problem. In addition Libre or open office no MS$. and if I make a mistake the edit function works just fine. I have 3 laptops chromebook, ubantu and win 10. Banking online does not like chromebook, so Ubuntu and win 10 are my alternatives. Chromebook is my everyday go to. Touch screen, bought it from cdw outlet maybe 3 years ago, $85! Down to 6 0r 7 hours battery life. Oh Well.
So my old win7 tower died. Decided to ditch the tower and monitor. Ordered a win10 laptop $285 from cdw outlet. Week 1 power supply died. Dell support wrong power supply contact cdw. Did, original person bumped it up to sales person. Please verify serial number. Picture of tag on computer. No good he says. Printout of dos serial ID can’t help you, I asked if we could escalate, as I had another usb3 charger that got a warning message about you could charge faster with the proper charger.
CDW credited me so free computer, don’t use it that often so slow charge is fine.
I appreciate that. I’ve often used Notepad to compose things and then copy/paste, mostly to avoid auto-formatting and/or carry-over formatting.
In this case, it wasn’t the issue. First I hit the wrong “Reply” button. Then tried to fix that, but didn’t have the power. And then I think I hit the wrong reply button again…
And it’s not JUST me, really. I was on an IBM PC (8086 processor?) and programming in Basic before most people even knew what a computer (or “personal computer” was). I’ve programmed and composed on mainframes. (I came into the picture just before programming cards were retired). I don’t code any longer, but learned several languages in addition to Basic (e.g. COBAL and FORTRAN - which I know are now ancient - give me some PYTHON!) And I’ve been and continue to be active on several internet boards where I have no trouble on those platforms.
Frankly, this editing platform just sucks. It’s very restrictive, controlling, and opaque - as in provides very little editor control. And it’s annoying - as I type I have this stupid pink window telling me not to respond because the “topic has been solved.” WTF? STFU.
Wow, I just got a popup as you describe. WARNING WARNING like the robot in Lost in space! I ignore it also. Sure I started out in fortran, cobal, basic a, etc. Hear ya. One of our assignments was how to start a car and program it. Now this was back in the carb days. Open door sit in seat close door, place key in etc.etc.
Just click on the X in the top right corner of the pink warning thingy, it goes away… lol
I see that too once in a while, a little annoying but easily ignored. The software designers are trying to be helpful, but actually are providing unneeded information. Another case of "just b/c it CAN be done, doesn’t mean it SHOULD be done. "
Personally, I think the forum design here is pretty easy to use. But then again the editor I’ve probably used the most is Unix “VI” … lol …
On a practical matter, I don’t think it matters much which “reply” button you press. Your reply still ends up in the same place, at the bottom of the thread. If you press a greyed out thread “reply” (vs the red reply at the bottom) , all that does is inform that poster you’ve replied to their particular post. The originator of the thread is also notified. If you press the red “Reply”, only the originator of the thread is notified.
They do look like it’s good time to replace. But stealer is the last place to do that.
