Tire chains for driving out to California from the midwest (2016 Mercedes E-250)

+1
However, if somebody insists on wearing a face covering with their nose exposed, then it is essentially worthless.
Every day, I see a few people in stores who are wearing a mask in that useless manner.

Yup. Totally worthless.

Try working in a hospitalā€¦the number of people we have to tell to pull the mask back up over their nose is ridiculousā€¦

I was recently in the hospital for 5 days. Luckily since I was the patient I didnā€™t have to wear a mask.

My closest friend is a critical care nurse, and just yesterday at his hospital, 17 nurses tested positive for Covid and are now excluded from work for several days. If this trend continues (or God-forbid acceleratesā€¦ ), they will begin to turn patients away due to insufficient staffing.

:pensive:

Most elective surgeries and even some cancer treatment patients are being turned away at some NH hospitals.

We made it to California, in two days, the first was 9 hours to Denver, and the second almost 18 hours to CA. Not much problems, but there was dense fog on CA-58 and 41 and to a lesser extent 46. We did the second day extended to reduce contact with covid precautions-reluctant folks. In my opinion, driving through UT is always amazing. But in terms of roads, Californiaā€™s roughly 350 miles were the best of the seven states we went through. Oh, yes, the tires were singing on CA-41, but we did not quite know why. It did not happen elsewhere. Thanks again for your suggestions and help, let us see how the return goes on, and report accordingly. I have learnt a lot from this one trip.

I donā€™t know why either but I have had tires that would do that on different types of pavement and not on others one of lifeā€™s mysteryā€™s I recon glad to see you made it OK enjoy youselfā€™s while you are there and have a safe return trip when you get ready. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Probably a roughened road surface.

Probably, but the roads that we traveled on in CA were simply amazing compared to the rest. Perhaps we are lucky in these sections were among those recently done or something, but there was an ocean of difference.

Interesting. Iā€™m not sure how road surface quality & road maintenance compares state to state. When I drive from San Jose to western Colorado the worse road surfaces are usually I80 from Fairfield CA to Sacramento CA. Generally the rest of the way, through the rest of northern Calif, northern Nevada, Utah, western Colorado, roads are pretty good other than the occasional areas of construction work. I80 over Donner pass has a fairly rough surface, but thatā€™s designed to make it less slippery I expect.

As far as roads singing, I have had a wild idea. Some grooved roads you get pitches and harmony, what if you could create an audio, like a needle on vinyl, ā€œToo Fastā€ Stop Ahead etc

they do have roads in another country (I do not remember which one) that play a song when you drive over that section.

I remember seeing I might be wrong but it seems to me it was from someone on this forum

Never mind I see you have found it while I was typing.

We donā€™t make the patients wear them in their rooms (if theyā€™re negative). We do request COVID+ patients wear them when staff come into their room.

Weā€™ve stopped most elective surgeries down here. We have a separate cancer center so we havenā€™t needed to stop cancer treatments other than some surgeries so far.

The staffing issues have been a problem for a long time, and itā€™s all coming to a head now.

@aarem Glad your trip has gone well so far!
