The Yaris Chronicals

How many clowns can fit in it?

Seven, 2 in the front, 3 rear and seven in the ā€œtrunkā€.

On the topic of the 10 hour road trip; most of us do that once or twice per year and renting a big car would be economically more reasonable. Now why do I have a minivan? A whole different story!

Why not just ride the bike forget the car?

ā€œWhy not just ride the bike forget the car?ā€

Because the mountain area of New Mexico is like 800 miles or so away and my commute is approximately 36 miles long. If my job was only 5 or 10 miles away, I would be taking that bike unless the weather was bad.

How often do you put the whole family and two weeks’ worth of luggage in your car? Once or twice a year. How often do you drive to work? Five days a week. So rent a bigger car for your vacation; d’oh. Some people don’t even OWN cars (use daily public transportation) and have figured out the ā€œrent a car when you need it and only when you need itā€ thing already.

As for disparaging the Yaris, I figure it’s a ā€œsizeā€ thing… Know what I mean??? ; /

Americans generally think bigger is better, which has led to not only super-size-me obesity, but hideous McMansions… I consider the source and don’t take offense at the tasteless…

That’s interesting. Do the ABS-equipped models have other improvements to the brakes? Usually, ABS itself contributes to slightly longer stopping distances (the brakes are released so that the wheels still roll). I’m guessing that the brakes were beefed up, as well as getting ABS.
