What is the official name of the Pope’s automobile - the one that looks like a sede gestatoria on the back of a Mercedes? It’s my understanding that HH John Paul II of blessed memory considered the term “Popemobile” to be disrespectful, so what was the term used?
There are actually many “Popemobiles” stationed around the world for the Pope’s use, and they vary widely in make and model–as well as in how they have been modified. The one that is most frequently photographed is a highly modified Mercedes M-Class, as you have apparently surmised.
All of that being said, there is apparently no “official” term for this vehicle.

Then why didn’t he or one of the Cardinals come up with another name and make it clearl available to everyone? If that’s the worst name he’s been associated with, things are pretty good.
