I drive a 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, and today the check engine light came on while driving under normal conditions in the city. The car still drives smoothly — no rough idling, no loss of power, no unusual sounds — but the light remains on even after restarting the engine.
I haven’t noticed any performance issues, but I’m a bit concerned.
Has anyone experienced this on the CLS before?
I haven’t used an OBD2 scanner yet — do you think it’s worth getting one to check the code myself before going to the dealer? Or would you recommend going straight to a Mercedes service center?
Could it be something simple like a loose gas cap or a minor sensor fault? Or is it likely related to something more serious like the emissions system?
The Mercedes me app just says: “Engine control system malfunction – visit workshop,” but it doesn’t provide any specific details.
Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated!
That message could mean lots of things but the wording is a bit scary. If the light isn’t flashing you are OK for a while. If you get a code reader, remember to check for additional codes because they won’t all show at once. Learn how to go to the next one.
Could be, I’d take it off, check that the gasket is clean, and put it back on. I’d also get the codes read at a parts store. Let us know what they find.
Yes, but it could also be something worse. Checking the codes with a scanner will point you in the right direction, unless you have a crystal ball that works… lol
If under warranty, just take it to the dealer…
Welcome to the forum… lots of good advise in the above post…
