Tell us about your First Car

My first car was a 1959 Morris Minor. The original 948 cc engine had been replaced by the 1100 cc engine from an Austin Healy Sprite. It needed brakes and a clutch. I waited one day too long to replace the brakes. A rear drum split along its circumference when I applied the brakes. I borrowed a friend’s dad’s garage to replace the clutch. I had to do the job overnight and be done before he opened for business in the morning. After I sold that car, I didn’t own another car for 10 years, relying on a bicycle.

I suppose technically my first car was an '84 Tercel hatchback. It was dad’s car, and he was going to give it to me. I was already driving it before he was going to sign the title over on my birthday, and then an idiot ran a stop sign and T-boned me. So I actually owned my first car for negative-six days.

I spent most of college without a car because I didn’t really need one as long as I had a bike. Then close to graduation I bought myself an '88 CRX. It was a rusty old piece of junk, but man was it a fun little go-kart to drive. So naturally when it died permanently I parted it out (still have some of the parts) and bought a 1991 CRX in almost mint condition. I still own that car, though I haven’t driven it in something like 15 years because it needs a new engine.

My very first car was a 2003 Honda Accord EX ( silver ). It was used with 28k miles on it.

Because I never had credit when I first started out in the United states, the interest rate on that car was a whooping 18%. It was a blessing when a relative borrowed the car and totaled it. I was happy.

Still, it was an amazing car.

@Clueless33 Look at the dates on the right and stop dragging old threads up .

I see both sides of what the last 2 posters are saying…

On one hand if it is a technical issue about the same vehicle and has a lot of good in depth discussions, then the answers have to be giving all over again, and or if a poster is asking about the same issue but keeps starting new threads over the same issue from the same timeline, then that is a huge waste of time and can get very confusing for the ones helping, and quite frankly, very irritating…

But on the other hand, if it is an old thread without much depth (technically speaking) then it might not get much attention as it does not give members an alert that something new has been posted on it, if the member has never seen that post before… On a new thread you get an alert…

18% is pretty steep indeed. But since you liked your 2003 Accord, better to pay the 18% than walk or take the bus. My cousin purchased one of the first Accords off the assembly line in the late 70’s. It was quite difficult to find one to purchase b/c the early Accords were in very high demand. He had to reserve it, pay in total, and wait nearly a year. He was living in Boston at the time. 10 years later, and after 10 years of the Accord battling Boston’s climate, I made a visit. He took me to lunch in his Accord. Still looked nice, but I could see the road going by through the rust holes in the floor. … lol …

1961 Volvo 544. Red. (Resembled a small '49 Ford.)
4-speed?
Bought for $200 in 1972 when Volvo was advertising “Volvo, the 11-year car.”
Had a window-type roll blind pulled up in front of the radiator via a chain which latched in a slot under the dash. Great idea to warm thengine in Winter and keep warm in below zero temperatures! Helped keep thengine compartment warm when parked athe grocery store.

Had one green turnsignalamp to indicate turnsignal on.
At a junk yard bought another 544’s combination seat-belt shoulder harness and the metal bracket onto which the belts latched.
The windshield had two outward head bulges with scalp skin and hair in the glass cracks.
Driver hadark hair and passenger blond.
