Taurus Fuel Filter Swap

Car: 1996 Ford Taurus GL 3.0L OHV

I’m trying to replace the fuel filter. I’ve pulled out the two-pronged plastic clips holding the fuel lines to either end of the old fuel filter. The question is, now what do I do to get the fuel lines off? I’ve tried prying them gently but firmly but they won’t budge. Do I need to use some kind of fuel line detach tool? Neither the Hanes Guide nor the factory service manual say anything about having to use such a tool to detach the fuel lines. I don’t want to pry too hard lest I damage them so I’m stuck. Anyone who is familiar with these cars have any suggestions?

i have a 1998 ford taurus, what i did was take the gas cap off first, to release the pressure then i took the clip off.and the filter came off.

The O-ring seals in the fittings harden with age and sometimes it may give the appearance the filter is welded in place.

Do not pull the lines straight off the filter. Try to rotate the filter back and forth while pulling and they should come loose.
Even then they can sometimes be a real bear to free up.
