Tall Woman Seeking 4WD Car. Must get 22+ MPG combined

I’m not quite 6 ft. but still have found I need to sit in LOTS of cars and a surprising number (RAV?! Prius!?) have windows set so I have to slightly crook my neck to look straight out. I want help in narrowing down the number of cars I have to sit in. So first, I want a list of ALL four wheel drive cars that have good gas mileage. (Note: I live in Massachusetts and work where my parking space is on a slant and I MUST have 4wd traction to get home on icy winter evenings.) Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Barbara

Try a Forester, I’m 6’5" and fit great.

I recommend the new Outback.
The amount of leg room is so substantial that, if I was to put the driver’s seat all the way back, I would not be able to reach the pedals, and I am approximately the same height as you are.

If you opt for a model with electrically-operated seats, you will be able to raise and lower the seat for correct positioning for your height, as well as move them forward and back, adjust the seatback angle, and “fine-tune” the lumbar support for your back’s needs.

The 2010-12 Outback, particularly if you get the Limited model, is an extremely comfortable car, and with the 4 cylinder engine and CVT transmission, it is EPA rated at 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway. Many owners report getting 33-34 mpg on long highway drives.

I have the Limited model with the optional 6-cylinder engine, and I regularly get 22-24 mpg in local driving, with 27-29 mpg on long highway drives.

I suggest that you only look at vehicles with a height adjustable drivers seat. That way you can lower it to whatever level works for you. Also, a long torso may mean foregoing a sunroof. But you can check that out in a test drive. BTW, did you adjust the seat height in those cars and trucks with that capability?

These are a few vehicles that meet your AWD and seat height adjustment needs:

Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Chevy Equinox, Hyundai Tuscon, Subaru Impreza.

Subaru Legacy is also good. It has a height adjustable seat and a truly telescoping steering wheel, so you can make yourself comfortable. My husband is 6’2" and this car works for him, too.

Mazda Cx-7 will give you a bit of extra fun with your driving.
