The 2001 outback has a pop out cup holder in the dash that when pressed pops out and then when pressed again stays back in the dash. Problem is that it will not stay back in the dash and protudes out about an inch. Is there anyone that knows how to fix this or point me to an online manual?
If the cup holder won’t stay in, a piece of it may be broken (it’s about 99.9% plastic), or there may be some debris preventing it from working properly.
You could remove it and inspect/clean it, or replace it with a working one from a junk yard.
You should be able to get a Haynes manual for your Subaru, either from Haynes or Books4Cars.com.
Two small screws hold the cup holder in place, one on either side, and they are visible when the cup holder is open.
