@Sarge,hostility,not hospitility ,seems to be the mantra now,so many Folks are so busy chasing the elusive happy well adjusted life, that the blinders they have on obscure the ease and luxury, they already posses.
People, put on the shirt of the contented man(it doesnt cost anything) while on the road to “Serendip” open your eyes and dont text-Kevin
Places that thrive on tourism will generally be more hospitable than places that thrive on crime..... like NYC's financial district, or Washington DC. Just kidding, guys.No you are not kidding, I live just outside of DC. My opinion is, if God or some other higher power was to give the U.S. an enema Wash. D.C. is where he'd stick it.
@Pvt.I said the same thing yesterday-Kevin
The poor will move to where the coins are falling through the cracks to be picked up and obviously D.C. offers a great deal of loose change out of sight under tables. But the poor picking up the loose change can be compared to the Bible’s direction for farmers to leave their fields to be gleened by the poor.
But every time I travel that I 95 corridor around D.C. I cringe.
@RodKnox
You have a unique way of putting things that make it very difficult to disagree with. Facts, and personal opinions can be interpreted differently, but the facts are everyone’s and the opinions are yours. We are always entitled to use each in a debate. I guess I agree again.
Traveling I95 through many cites and you can come up with similar conclusions if we are willing to look. It reminds me of the excursions we took by bus on our last cruise. We often went the long way around to our destination, because seeing what really goes on is, how shall I put it, " bad for business(es)" .
I;ve maintained for years that the best way to clean up DC is to move the government to Omaha. Of course it would ruin Omaha. Cheap land, good work ethic, centrally located, and even a road or two going into it.

And then Warren Buffett could be president, since he currently doesn’t want to commute.
Warren Buffett for president!
Some legislators in Oklahoma were making a serious effort to move the state capital back in the 1970s to Boise City, OK; the last stop in the Badlands with a population of about 1200 and no Wal Mart at all even to this day…
One has to assume they were looking for a place to openly take payola out on the sidewalk without anyone noticing…
Any native Americans there? One of my best friends was from Ok(at least half Indian)-Kevin
@kmccune … we have something in common. One of my best friends in the Air Force was a full-blooded Comanche from Oklahoma. Mr. Wolfmule…are you reading this?
Some of the most patriotic and spiritual folks are Native American, um Indian, in my experience, and fearless up high or in the bush.
I do not shop at Walmart, PERIOD.
Care to elaborate? I’m sure Walmart does not miss your money in the least.
I too would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I respect your right to make the choice, but we all learn by hearing different perspectives.
Each of us makes decisions and develops preferneces and prejudices based on our environment and culture, @dagosa. This is one of the few forums where differences in opinion can be bickered without anyone becoming hostile or insulting. I enjoy reading intelligent, well thought out posts that are contradictory to my opinion. I don’t recall ever naking a 180* change in my view based on posts here but I have often been prompted to rethink my opinion and occasionally moved significantly to the right or left in my view based on other’s opinions posted here. Hit me with your best shot.
Not to take a left turn into shipping again, but like I said I like UPS, but geez. I ordered a control panel for my furnace dampers just to replace the 20 year old system with new. From NJ to MN. Trailer was late getting into Illinois. Hit Minneapolis early Saturday after a week. Then today the message: “A UPS error has delayed delivery. We’re adjusting plans and working to deliver your package as quickly as possible.” What the heck does that mean? Sounds like it might have gone on the trailer bound for Seattle or something. Hope it didn’t get chewed up in the conveyor or run over by the fork lift or something. Wasn’t planning on doing it until Spring anyway. I don’t like being without heat. But like I said, Minneapolis has some issues with their distribution center.

That is distressing to hear, Bing.
By contrast, when I order clothing from LL Bean (which seems to be…fairly often), the package always makes it from Freeport, ME to my home in Central NJ w/in 2 days, and on a couple of occasions it has been delivered w/in 24 hours.
@Bing … I ran into a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a new battery for my wife’s laptop and paid for a 2-3 day delivery. I got an email which gave me a FedEx tracking number and I used to to watch the progress of the delivery. It went from Texas to New Jersey and then on to Illinois where it spent a couple of days. It was then shipped to Ohio and then down to Louisville, Ky. The FedEx number was useless after that because it was stuck at “in transit.”
I finally called the company that shipped the battery and they told me that “winter storms” had delayed the shipment but it was still in transit. I kept looking for the big FedEx truck when the mailman arrived with the battery. FedEx, it now seems, ships to USPS for residential deliveries if the package is small enough. It would have been cheaper and quicker just to send the battery in the mail but the company informs me that they don’t do it that way. Huh? I’m supposed to get a refund on the shipping difference but I’m not really holding out any hope for that.
Several months ago, I ordered some car parts online
I’m in California, yet for some reason UPS was looking for my exact street address in the wrong state.
UPS and the vendor were blaming each other
I contacted the vendor and told them I really don’t care whose fault it is, I just need my stuff ASAP.
They apologized and got my stuff to me the next day. They had their local parts driver deliver a duplicate order to my house, and had UPS send the original order sent back to them.
I really don’t know where the mistake originated, but the vendor took full responsibility and did everything in their power to make things right
I’ve noticed something disturbing about FedEx. They seem far more likely to make you go to the warehouse to pick up your order, if they were unable to deliver because you weren’t home. UPS will usually attempt at least another delivery.
I don’t shop at Walmart very much because I don’t usually go to that end of town very often.
I despise FedEx more than anyone could imagine. I could probably write 5 paragraphs about my experience with them, but I’ll save you all from that and just summarize: While it’s nice they usually deliver packages while you’re at work, it’s not so nice when you have to sign for a package in person.
The closest FedEx pick up place is a good hour drive away, and a couple times I’ve had to make other arrangements for them to deliver my packages somewhere else to be signed by a family member because they do 3 attempts, and won’t accept the door sticker they give you to sign when they leave their notice. After the 3rd attempt, the package goes back to the sender if you don’t arrange to pick it up at their pick-up place.
