I have a 1991 Saturn SC1. After a few weeks of driving my car short distances in stop and go traffic it becomes extremely sluggish and and rough when I accelerate, and the check engine light comes on. However, after I drive the car on the highway for a short time, the car stops having problems for a week or so. Does anyone know what may be causing a situations such as this?
That CEL (check engine light) is just a kid in class waving her hand trying to get you attention because she has the answer. You need to have the codes read. Some places will read them for FREE. Try Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get the exact code not just their translation into English and post it back here.
Of course you could just sell it to the parents of a teenager who is just learning to drive. Nothing better than a sluggish car for them and they may learn to fix it by the time they learn to drive it.
