my 1995 jeep grand cherokee’s front end shakes violently when i hit a bump in the road. It seems to happen when i’m driving over 35 mph. It’s very scary, and feels like the entire car is going to fall apart, it shakes so badly. have you heard of this before? any ideas?
This is the infamous “death wobble”. It is caused by worn components in the suspension system. There are several Jeep specific discussion groups on the web that have gone over this in detail. The major components that have an effect on this wobble are the following: steering damper, control arm bushings, track bar, tire balance, alignmment. Check all these out before sinking a load of money into tracking down less common causes.
