Service Engine Soon light

I was driving in the rain yesterday and went through about 6 inches of water. My Service Engine Soon light came on. A friend of mine said not to worry that it should go off in a few days.

Is this something I should be concerned about immediately?

As long as it is not flashing, you can wait a few days to see if it resets itself.

Follow your friend’s advice for now. If the light goes off in a few days don’t worry. If the light stays on you’ll have to have the computer scanned for trouble codes to see what’s going on.

I’m guessing water splashed on the crankshaft position sensor, or some other sensor, and once everything dries out the light will go off.

Yes, as has been suggested, if the light is steadily illuminated, you can safely wait a while. With any luck, it will go out.

However, if the light is flashing, that means that the car needs immediate attention.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll wait and see if the light goes off in a few days.
