It does have a battery . Put ’ replacing battery in BMW key fob ’ in your search engine and you will find videos showing how to do it. Or just go by the dealer .

Some BMWs from that period have an integrated battery in the key that was not meant to be replaced, it is recharged while in the ignition socket. These batteries eventually wear out, there is a method of cutting the case open, then replacing the case and battery.
