I tried to clean off a blob of white paint on the rear side marker light’s lens. I guessed it was latex. It wouldn’t come off with fingernail or plastic scraper. I didn’t want to use a metal scraper so I painted on a bit of Citristrip, figuring it wouldn’t harm plastic. I was wrong. It seems to have stripped off most of the orange-ness of that part of the lens. I suspect it’s just as functional as a rear side marker, so I won’t replace it, but if there’s a fix I’d like to try it.
Loc tite used to have an epoxy repair kit in red, amber, and white. For broken lens.. haven’t see the stuff in years though but worked good.
A repair kit costs $11.
A new lens is $19.
I’m not talking about the colored tape that is glued on the outside. I was referring to the epoxy that is mixed and applied to the inside using a tape as a temporary form on the outside. I’d like to see it if that’s what you have for $11
That would cost more. Toyota taillights are common, seems practical to replace the lens or lamp.
Here is an epoxy kit for $12 plus $5.50 for shipping.
It’s not broken, just discolored.
That’s an obvious choice. I was hoping for something I could jury-rig, like a safe way to polish it clean then restore the tint.
Odd that the picture shows fixing the area around the light, not the lens itself.
Formulated for polycarbonate but probably work on other plastics. A hobby shop that deals with RC models should have it, if not, readily available online.
Cheapest way to pass an inspection would be to use a piece of orange-tinted tape on the inside of the lens, protected from weather/peeling/etc. Probably last the life of the car. About $3.
Maybe you have an orange-tinted notebook divider tab laying around that you could glue on the inside?https://www.jampaper.com/assorted-plastic-8-tab-index-dividers-item-375032922?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=(ROI)%20Shopping%20-%20PMax%20-%20Assorted%20Envelopes&utm_id=22387761358&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22377847671&gbraid=0AAAAAD_hXJx9aYrgDFjcpKvHAaHQ0oZbu&gclid=Cj0KCQjwp7jOBhDGARIsABe7C4cyKJc4jjfNakpwEOUc8TE6I9op64y7nn6xWUjxwxuin7Db6IpfA1AaAi8gEALw_wcB
Is there a lady around that might have some nail polish?
Just saying that this is a guy that drives maybe once a year and has a single seat bike for normal transport. Might be a nice opening line though to the girl next door but something tells me not interested.
