My daughter wants a remote starter for Christmas. I’d like some advice on what to look for as well as some suggestions for make/models and reputable places to buy one.

I don’t recommend remote starters unless they come on the car from the factory. There’s too much potential for damage to the car’s electric/electronic systems if the installation is done incorrectly, and once the damage is done it’s very difficult to repair.
If you insist on purchasing a remote starter, I’d be more concerned with the integrity and reputation of the installer than anything else. Look for a warranty and read it VERY carefully.
