does anyone know of a product that you can buy that is a remote microphone, where you can mount the mic somewhere on/in the car, and listen to it on a remote speaker in order to help you better localize a sound? or hear the sound more clearly while driving?

I’m assuming you’re trying to balance the speakers in your vehicle’s sound system.

They might have what you’re looking for, but I think it’s a bit more complex than just a microphone.

Then again, my assumption may be wrong. Your initial post is rather vague.

I’m guessing you’re planning to use it to diagnose some noise the car makes while you’re driving?

You’ll want to secure the microphone in place with tape. You might want to cut up an old sock and wrap a piece of it around the microphone as a windscreen, otherwise you’ll just get wind noise if it’s mounted anywhere outside the cabin.

If your car has a tape player, you can also pick up a $12 adapter so you can hear it on your stereo instead of through the crappy little earpiece it comes with.
