I have a set of chromed wheels that has peeling chrome(mostly on the inside). The outside is 95% in good shape. The cost to chemically strip and re-plate is more than buying new, which is expensive in itself.
I have been given several ideas of which I am not sure what is best.
Several of the ideas are:
1.Grit blast to remove plating and paint.
2. Leave alone and touch up with wheel primer and paint silver to match chrome as best you can.
3. Grit blast to roughen up plating and paint over with POR-15 primer and then wheel paint.
Any opinions or other ideas?
Buy a new set of wheels. Or used ones in decent shape.
i’ve heard that you can get powder coating close to chrome now.
