I have an 07 RAV-4 (V6) with a strange problem. After inserting key into ignition the engine won’t start, yet all the instrument lights come on. By simply moving the shift lever (automatic)slightly, then turning the key the engine starts. The Toy Dealer couldn’t find anything wrong. This is a very rare occurance. I’ve already replaced the key fob battery, and that fixed the problem temporarily. Any ideas?
You probably need a new neutral safety switch (though its probably actually called something else, officially).
Although 3 years would be very quick for the failure of this part, I agree that these symptoms certainly seem to describe a faulty neutral safety switch.
