The radio on my 2000 Camry seems to lose the presets on the radio randomly. Sometimes overnight, sometimes if I start the car and it does not start right away. Everything else seems to work fine. Is there an internal battery like on the older computers that may need replacing–like it does not hold a charge anymore?
The radio has a connection to the battery at all times for the memory and is different from the main power to the radio. There may be a connection problem in that line or the trouble may be inside the radio itself.
I will look at that this weekend.
I had a similar problem with a 1990 Aerostar. I would lose the presets and the clcok would reset to 12:00 a.m. It turned out to be the car battery. I guess if the voltage drops below a certain point, the radio loses its memory. I suppose bad connections to the circuit that allows the radio to maintain its memory could also have the same effect.
