i have a 2007 mustang v6 4.0 and i wanted to know f i added a y splitter to my intake could i have my stock airbox on one side and a cold air intake on the other. i no it would “work” but i have 2 sensors on the stock air box and intake tube. would i need 2 more sensors for the cold air intake?
This was a common modification in the '60s and '70s, but it will not work on a modern vehicle. One of those sensors is the mass airflow sensor. This monitors how much air is coming into the engine. Adding another snorkel will throw off the reading and the vehicle will either not run or will run poorly with this modification.
thanks. would adding a cheap ram air to the stock box do anything? or waist of money
Not muched to be gained with a CAI, especially a cheap one, might make a slight difference at wide open throttle. Some like the noise, though. That’s up to you.
There is not much (power) to be gained by working the the air intake of a modern car. Back in the 50’s (yea, I’m old enough to remember those cars) you could gain a lot, but not today. You may make some more noise, and if that is your goal, it might work, but not much help with power or mileage.
My brother added a cold air intake and throttle body spacer to a Jeep Grand Cherokee once, and the only difference I noticed between those two modifications was more intake noise under moderate to hard acceleration and upon startup. They do make more noise and may show some improvement on a dyno, but I doubt you will actually feel anything.
