MY 1993 PLYMOUYH ACCLAIM will all the sudden make a sputtering sound and will not let me speed up when i put my foot on the gas. It even did this going up a hill but it did make it up and acted better after this. We checked the transmission fluid and it was out. Could the problem have been the transmission fluid. It didnt do it when we drove it after adding the transmission fluid.
The automatic transmission MUST have the correct fluid level at all times. Yes, a low fluid level can cause the transmission to slip. But, worse, a low level will severely damage the transmission. An engine can safely be a half quart low. A transmission cannot. Check both levels often, at least weekly. You could save your transmission from am early demise.
