Performance Driving Courses--Any recommendations?

I would like to find a challenging and fun driving course for my boyfriend as a suprise gift. He is a good driver–so not looking for drivers ed. but something beyond that might cover some performance driving topics and lots of time actually driving and practicing these types of skills. Geographically I would be most likely looking for courses in Virginia–we live in Norfolk. But am not entirely limited to this area if there was something really cool somewhere else. I want to give him this for his birthday–he’s turning the big 4 oh, so I realize I might have to drop some bucks for a course like this, but am not independantly wealthy or anything so I’d like to find a great course with a reasonable price. Any out there have any recommendations or places to avoid? YOur advice will most likely be greatly appreciatted. Thanks!

The instructors at VIR offer high performance driving classes. Also there is a Skip Barber school there as well

The Bob Bondurant School in California used to be the best in the country; you really learn to drive at the limits of the car there and do it safely.

This doesn’t really match what you’re looking for, but take a quick look at the driving program at http://www.1800bepetty.com just in case.

Skippy sounds like the place to go…

They have Hi Performance driving schools; http://www.skipbarber.com/driving_school/driving_school.aspx

…and Race Schools; http://www.skipbarber.com/racing_school/racing_school.aspx

There are lots of clubs that do drivers schools on race tracks, but you use you own car. BMW Club has a nice program…much cheaper to do, but you do use your car. My local chapters (Boston and White Mtn) do not require BMW ownership.

I did the Nascar-type drive here at Texas Motor Speedway, it was LOTS of fun. Just depends what the boyfriend would like…
