Properly secure your load

After a hail storm a couple months ago, nearly everyone is getting a new roof so I’m expecting tire problems. So far so good though. Even though my guys cleaned things up pretty good, I still got nails on my magnet from nails in the grass.

One of my pet peeves is dump truck drivers that don’t use the top load cover. I have a place close to me where you buy dirt, stones and mulch. Big dump trucks take a full load of small stones and are too lazy to pull the cover over the top. There’s a sign on the back that says: “Stay back 200 ft. Not responsible for cracked windshields”!

Just because they have the sign doesn’t mean they aren’t responsible for damage.

I don’t remember the exact percentage but studies have indicated that 20-30% of the population has a mental illness. Ok as long as they are dispersed but when they cluster together in an occupation or grouping, watch out. Just keep your distance from the gravel truck and don’t confront her or him.

I really don’t understand why R G thinks anyone outside the area where this happened is a Car Talk Forum subject.

I guess it’s now okay for me to start posting about collisions and other purely-local stuff that takes place in my neck of the woods.

Well around here it is construction season, especially with everyone around getting a new roof. They use dumpsters and trailers and they aren’t always sealed very well. I’m bracing for a couple new sets of tires before the snow plows clean everything up. If i go to the dump with the trailer, I will get out and walk the concrete before driving up to the dumpsters to unload. I have found many nails there in the past.

My previous comment still stands

Since this is apparently a thread about purely-local accident issues, here are my contributions–which nobody outside of my area would likely have any interest in reading about.

Enjoy?

My lawnmower picked up roofing nails in my yard. Should I start a new thread, but to make it car/truck related, my truck picked up a roofing nail too.

Yes, definitely!

Funny, but yes I had bacterial pneumonia. Only survived because the hospital had a standing policy that when a patient’s temp goes over 104, blood cultures are drawn. The attending doctor misdiagnosed me completely on admission.

Yes, this NEVER happens to vehicles on other roads in other states.

I remember when the top cover was first mandated and trucking companies HATED them. They would put a piece of cloth that was so thin just to meet the minimum standard.

I think that is still common.
