any good links to online repair guides? i’ve been searching for help on removing the starter from my 79 vw dasher but haven’t had any luck

Try Autozone.com. They have a number of manuals on line, don’t know about the Dasher, though.

Try your local library. You can typically log on from home as well, if you have established privileges at the library. Alldata.com is a good source.
