One more manufacturer leaving China?

VW’s Skoda unit is contemplating whether to shut-down their manufacturing operations in China.
I’m surprised that VW allows that much autonomy.

Me, too. Interesting on several levels.

The article doesn’t say that Skoda made a decision independent of parent VW. Companies operate differently, some offering more autonomy than others. My last employer was purchased by an an oil field services company that was looking for stable income. My government services company, along with others they bought, provided that constant cash flow they wanted. They didn’t understand the business and let us run our show. My daughter’s company was purchased by Microsoft and they run mostly autonomously too. Still, if VW didn’t like the idea they would stop it.
