OBDII Scanner Readings

2001 Mazda Protégé 2L 4 cylinder. I did a search but didn’t find an answer. When I did a scan this morning there were no codes but some systems showed “Not Ready”. The engine was cold.

If I check my system with my OBDII scanner is it necessary to check with the engine at normal operating temperature or can I check it when it is cold?

Right now no CEL and all seem fine but I just want to see the readings. Thanks.

The engine can be cold to scan for codes. But to check if all the monitors are ready the vehicle needs to be driven and the engine up to full operating temperature.

I think I goofed this morning when I did the reading with my car cold. I erroneously erased all the data from the computer so I got a “not ready” result.

I’ll drive for a few days and re-check with the engine in operating temperature and I’ll be very sure to follow the clear instructions in the manual on how to read each component.

Sorry for causing bad info and wasting everyone’s time.

My Mazda passed smog with one “Not Ready”. Happy, happy!!!
