Not a good sign for Tesla

The severe drop-off in Tesla sales is not the result of falling interest in EVs, because EV sales in Europe (from other manufacturers) was up 38%, while Tesla sales have cratered.

Sometimes politics and business are not good bedfellows.

In the past few months I bought a used Chevrolet Bolt EV. I considered a Tesla, but went with the Bolt for 3 reasons:

  1. Distaste for Elon’s politics.
  2. Lack of Apple Carplay and Sirius satellite service
  3. Concerns about access to repair shops and quality. I have no doubt GM knows how to build a quality car, and if I need repairs, there are at least a dozen Chevrolet dealers in my area.

Just my two cents.

There is a person who is selling lots of stickers to Tesla owners that read -

I Bought this before I knew Musk was Crazy

Teslas don’t feature that as standard equipment?
That would seem to be pretty basic nowadays.

Nope. Teslas don’t have Apple Carplay or Sirius satellite service. I think they’ll do internet/streaming Sirius.

As someone who has had to cut the budget 10%, been laid off, had position eliminated, and had to justify my existence to a crazy person, life is tough. Sometimes it has to be done to cull the herd. But sorry for the drop in dc housing values.

Like I said before though, I think the styling is stale. The us geography and market is quite different than Europe though.

That’s true. In the US, Tesla sales dropped only 11.6% in 2024, while overall EV sales in the US rose.

congratulations

That seems like a good car for someone who just needs it to commute

Tesla provides most of the services that CarPlay does. Why should they provide CarPlay? We use CarPlay in our Odyssey, mostly for GPS. Mrs JT uses audio texting occasionally. I could use most if not all Apps on my iPhone through Bluetooth connection to my Model 3, and occasionally I do. Before my XM subscription lapsed I used the XM app on my iPhone via Bluetooth.

Remember, this is not a political forum…

You can trash talk the vehicle without bringing politics into the discussion…

As the #1 seller of EVs in the world, sales have to fall when large numbers of EV manufacturers start selling.

He’s the OWNER of the company - NOT an Engineer. Musk BOUGHT Spacex and the engineers. He put a lot of money into it, but it wasn’t his idea or engineering. Money doesn’t equate to Intelligence.

It’s all in how someone says something. If it appears that the comment is meant to make someone angry, then it gets flagged. That is true whether it’s cars or other aspects of life. I can think of several times comments about cars weren’t about the ideas but the person making a comment. Obviously, that’s flag bait. Sometimes what appears to the poster to be a joke is offensive because the recipient won’t accept it as a joke. I read all my posts before pressing reply to make sure that my spelling is correct and I haven’t veered into troll territory. Like your comment above Dave, this is meant as a general comment and not directed at anyone in particular.

The reason Tesla sales have sunk is not because of political nonsense, etc. It’s because the market for its product, at current price points, is mostly saturated. People are tapped out financially right now, and expensive new vehicles are out-of-the-question for most. Maybe they should come out with an electric economy car, to be sold at a price point of $25k. That would likely be a raging success.

While I agree that the market for EVs is at–or near–saturation, the fact remains that overall EV sales continue to climb, albeit at a slower rate than previously.

The increase in overall EV sales in Europe is much more than in The US, but even in The US, there is a slight uptick in EV sales, while Tesla sales are plummeting.

I deleted everything this morning out of respect for the forum (not due to any comments made), any and all statements from anybody else should do the same…

NOBODY will change anybody’s mind on this…

I’m old enough to know that rants–whether they be of a political nature, or regarding speed limits, or regarding modern automotive electronic features, or regarding tire pressure–are not likely to change another person’s opinions. Posting of rants might make somebody feel better for the moment, but–ultimately–they accomplish nothing.

Thanks, Dave. It’s tricky, but I’ll do my best. This thread is about vehicle sales. And it’s in the general discussion area, not repair and maintenance. I’ll do what I can. I agree that we don’t need the same BS hitting us from every possible angle.
Be well.

Hey. I went through and I think I deleted all the political stuff. I don’t know if this discussion can survive without the content that’s been deleted because it might come up again. But I’ll close it then. Thank you.
