Non directional tires

I order winter tire/wheel package and just installed them. These are non directional tires but the tread patterns from the driver side to passenger are opposite. Is this ok?

And your point is ???

I’m asking if they were mounted wrong by the manufacturer.

I’m asking if they were mounted wrong by the manufacturer.

If they are “non directional” you can’t mount them wrong.

The manufacturer didn’t mount the tires. But yes, if they are directional, they should be mounted facing a certain direction. If they weren’t mounted correctly, take the back to the shop/outfit that did mount them and have them take another shot at it. If they are non-directional, then it really doesn’t matter.

These look like one of the Wintracs, but exactly what tire is this? Can you post a full picture from the side?

Look on the sidewall of the tire for anything that indicates the direction the tires should rotate when mounted.

If nothing is found it means they’re non-directional tires so it doesn’t matter where they’re mounted.

If you take the tires off and flip them the tread will still be the same. They will seem different in the same way as you were asking about. The tread is not agressive enough to hurt the handling of the car.

Yes, it is an optical illusion. - since you are only looking at part of the tread - the part that sticks out. The road surface “sees” the entire tread surface.

Asymmetrical tires are mainly non directional tires yet they have an inner, center and outer tread pattern that requires them to be mounted a certain way, the sidewall will have either or both mount this side out/in
They would need to be symmetrical tires to be able to be mounted any which way

I stand (or sit) corrected.

It is asymmetric, and looks like it should be installed accordingly. Is there no marker on the side of the tire indicating ‘this side out’? Also, it’s an all season tire with good winter traction, not a winter tire. Is that what you want?
Here’s what I found on Tire Rack:

Yellow highlighted part is definitely the outside. There are no markings idicating which side out. I was shopping for winter tires for my car and compared all available tires and to my suprise, QuaTrac had better consumer reviews for all categories including “winter/snow” than the winter tires. Michelin X-Ice was the next best and costs so much more!

I give more weight to professional tire tests than consumer opinions. That said, it does have the winter tire rating. Unless you’re driving in extreme conditions, I think they’d be fine. And if there’s no marking on the tire side, I wouldn’t worry about the mounting. But that’s me.

100% agree on both

I put my blizzak tires/rims on last month. And saw 1 tire arrow was pointed to rear. Heck, maybe more than 1. But I didn’t look further. I sold car.
