When starting my car after it’s been sitting out in the cold, there’s a whining sound from the steering column. If I turn the steering wheel either way, the sound continues…after several minutes the noise quits. I do not hear this noise any other time. Steering fluid is full-any suggestions?
How many miles does the car have on it?
It the noise is in any way affected by turning the steering wheel than I’d suspect a failing power steering pump. Pop the hood while it’s making the noise and see if you can identify the source. Touching various components with a metal rod or tube can help locate the source…but BE CAREFUL. You don’t want to stick the rod into a moving part or something electrical.
I have just a little over 100,000 miles on my car. It’s running fabulous except for this one situation. I appreciate your response…looks like we’ll under the hood of my Dodge this weekend!
