I have a 2012 nissan altima that will not start. When you go to start( push button) it will only go to the on position. All the lights will come on the dash. Even though the light switch is turned off my headlights are on and the fan ( under hood) is engaged. This seems definitely to be electrical related but where should i start.
Also once car gets into the on position on the push start it will not do anything else. (Wont turn off)
Any other issues you didn’t mention?
Is the gas tank full? Have you run the engine low on oil lately? Is the battery new or old?
Try holding your fob next to the push button when you start it. If it works, that means the fob battery needs to be replaced. This might not work, but it’s a cheap fix if it does.
Do the brake light come on when you push the brake pedal? If not it could be a mis-adjusted or non functioning brake light switch.
Common issue. The BCM needs to be reset. Not sure if that requires the BCM to be reprogrammed afterward. Here’s a link to the service bulletin:
the tsb seems to imply that reflashing with updated software IS the solution
So it seems to be a little more than just a reset
Doesn’t appear to be anything the average DIY guy can do at home
TSB says step 1 is ensure battery is charged. OP says it is ok.
No other issues it happened as my son was driving it starting losing power. Battery less then 2 years old. Tank almost full
Yes brake light comes on
Died while driving is a different condition than the original post which reads; won’t start today.
Recharge the battery and test the charging system.
