No oil in catch can after 8000 miles?

I’ve owned my 2013 mustang gt / 5.0 for 6 months now. In that time I’ve driven it almost 8000 miles. The engine is completely stock other than a JLT oil catch can which was added by the previous owner. Here’s a link to it:

Anyway, when I first bought the car, there was 87k miles on it. I did an oil change at 90k and opened the catch can but it was empty besides maybe 1 or 2 drops. I rinsed it out and reinstalled. This was after 3000 miles. I checked the catch can again today just rolling over 95k (and 5000 miles since last checked catch can) and it had maybe a drop. It was basically empty.

I see videos of people on Youtube reviewing it and when they empty it there is what looks to be 1 or 2 ounces of very dark oil.

Why is my catch can empty after 8000 miles? Is a catch can only needed if your engine is heavily modified? I presume it’s probably a good thing that it’s empty, because it means there isn’t any blowby in my engine? Any input appreciated.

Your catch can is empty because your piston rings are doing their job. Stop worrying about the catch can when it is empty. Worry when it is full!

The 2013 engine does not has direct injection and does not need a catch can.

The rings in the engine are good, so no oil blow-by.

I get about an ounce (if that) every 5k-6k miles in mine. I chalk it up to my typical commute being about 5 miles on weekdays.

Checked oil level recently?
